Dive Insight:
Dublin is something of a hub for fintech activity in Europe, and several major payment companies, such as Adyen and Stripe, have offices there.
Block's new office is located in one of the city's business districts. Numerous major multinational companies such as Microsoft and Mastercard also have offices in the city.
Thursday's release did not say precisely when the Dublin office opened, and spokespeople for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Block — which is headquartered in Oakland, California — also has offices in London. The company’s product include the point-of-sale service Square and the buy now, pay later service Afterpay.
Ireland was chosen as the location for the new office because of the strategic advantages the country offers, the news release said, without elaborating.
