Google acquires payment company TxVia
News of staff turmoil notwithstanding, Google Wallet continues to be a going concern for Google. In a blog post on the company’s site, Osama Bedier, VP of Wallet and Payments at Google, announced Google has acquired payment processor and platform provider TxVia "to complement our payments capabilities and accelerate innovation towards our full Google Wallet vision."
Founded in 2008, TxVia is was a payment processor focused on the prepaid and gift card space. Bedier’s post said TxVia has managed more than 100 million accounts since it started. The company also has direct connections to a number of payment networks and Bedier said that along with its technology, Google will look to leverage those relationships.
TxVia CEO Anil Aggarwal posted a brief comment on the TxVia site saying the company "looks forward to expanding our partnerships with both the payments industry and a wide variety of other organizations that are pinoeering a new era of commerce."
