Canadian gas chain's mobile payment app offers respite from the cold
The high temperature in Edmonton, Alberta will be a balmy 34 degrees today. Tomorrow? 16 degrees. That's important information when considering the new mobile payment app from Hughes Petroleum, a chain of gas stations in Alberta, Canada.
Hughes launched the new application earlier this week, according to a story in the Edmonton Journal. Using the app, which links to a debit or credit card account, customers can stay in their cars to turn on the gas pump and pay for their gas. (They still have to get out to put the gas in the car, but every second counts when the temperatures are in single digits.)
The app was developed for Hughes by AJB Software. According to the story, the payment method currently is enabled at just one location, but it will be rolled out across Hughes' 22 locations in coming months.
