Former Wirecard CEO Markus Braun was arrested on suspicion of inflating the payment company's balance sheets and sales figures, according to Reuters.

The arrest just days after being fired in connection with the company's massive $2.1 billion accounting scandal.

Late last week, Wirecard withdrew financial statements and later admitted that the funds in question may have never existed.
