Walmart's Jet.com to end fresh food delivery in New York City
Walmart's e-commerce unit Jet.com is closing its New York City fresh grocery delivery business after launching the service about a year ago, resulting in the loss of up to 300 jobs at a Bronx warehouse.
The company said it will continue to sell dry groceries and other general merchandise in New York City and other metro locations.
"We learned a lot by testing Jet fresh grocery delivery in New York City and we recognized the important role our stores play in providing an efficient way to offer groceries to customers through pickup and delivery," a Walmart spokesperson said via email. "We will focus our grocery delivery in markets where we have this incredible opportunity."
The delivery business also included a fresh seafood program launched under a partnership with the Fulton Fish Market.
