Tabbedout lands partnership with TGI Friday's

TabbedOut, the plucky little Austin-based mobile payment startup, isn't so little anymore. (We assume they're still as plucky as ever.) The company announced it has partnered with casual dining chain T.G.I. Friday's to offer its app as a payment method in Friday's restaurants. With this one partnership, Tabbedout has basically doubled the number of restaurant locations where its app can be used as a payment method.

In addition to being a payment option in Friday's restaurants, Tabbedout is also powering the food chain's mobile payment app, essentially turning Tabbedout's app into a white label solution for Friday's.

The payment function of the new Friday's app is called My Friday's Tab and mimics the functionality of Tabbedout's payment app. Patrons can search for a nearby Friday's restaurant, open a tab, track their orders, and then pay directly from their phone. No more waiting on a check. And it means consumers never let their credit card out of their site when they pay their check. (In a discussion with Mobile Payments Today a couple of weeks ago, Tabbedout's co-founder Rick Orr said 40 percent of all fraud actually occurs when consumers hand their cards over to pay at retailers and restaurants.)

Getting set up on the Friday's app is the same as setting up the Tabbedout app as well. Users securely store their credit card info directly on the phone behind password protection. The data doesn't reside on a Secure Element, so any Android or iPhone will work, and it isn't stored in the cloud either.

Existing Tabbedout users can simply use the Tabbedout app as they would at any of the more than 400 bars and restaurants already accepting Tabbedout — no need to re-enter data into the Friday's app. Friday's 350 locations are integrated into Tabbedout's app.
