Swedish Seamless adds NFC to SEQR m-payment solution
Seamless, the Stockhom-based company behind the SEQR mobile payment product, has announced that it will start including NFC technology in SEQR. The new solution will start to appear in stores in the next few days, the company said.
SEQR operates via QR codes affixed to point of sale terminals. Mobile phone users scan the code with their SEQR app during a transaction. The app links the transaction to the SEQR user and debits that individual's linked payment account.
The new solution will use NFC stickers instead of QR codes, which users of NFC-enabled phones will be able to read with their handsets.
“This will make us a completely technology-independent option for retailers and users," said Peter Fredell, CEO and President of Seamless. "It still costs the retailer nothing to introduce SEQR, and no expensive hardware or complicated installation is needed. With the Seamless NFC solution, we have also solved the big security problems that were previously associated with NFC technology."
According to Seamless, its payment solution has become the leading mobile payment solution in Sweden. It has been adopted by grocery retailer Axfood group and McDonald's restaurants in Sweden, the company said.
Seamless said software that enables the NFC component of their app will begin rolling out to users in May.
