Sungy Mobile acquires mobile ad network

GetJar, a privately-held app store and mobile ad network operator based in San Francisco, has been acquired for $5.3 million in cash by Sungy Mobile for its mobile data analytics capabilities.

Guangzhou, China-based Sungy Mobile operates the 3G.cn mobile internet portal and the 3G Book Market website in China, and also develops apps under the GO series brand for Android devices.

Sungy Mobile says it will employ GetJar's management and key personnel, providing them with earn-out equity incentives.

Sungy Mobile had an initial public offering on Nasdaq in November 2013. The company says that if certain performance targets are achieved, it may issue up to an aggregate of 1.4 million Class A ordinary shares to the seller of GetJar by early 2016.

"We are pleased to expand our global footprint with our first international acquisition," Yuqiang Deng, Sungy Mobile's chief executive officer, said in a statement. "Our acquisition of GetJar provides our platform with state-of-the-art mobile data analytics capabilities that will support our mobile advertising research and development initiatives, and accelerate our product development process."
