Starbucks upgrades Android payment app
Starbucks Corp. has announced that it is expanding the reach and functionality of its popular mobile payment application. The company said it is introducing an Android version of the app to customers in the United Kingdom and Canada, as well as adding new enhancements to the Android app in the U.S.
"The expansion of our mobile payment footprint to two of our most important markets is a strong milestone for us, but more importantly, it extends the number of customers who now have a faster and easier way to pay at Starbucks," said Adam Brotman, chief digital officer at Starbucks Coffee Company.
Upgrades to the app include the ability for Android users in the U.S. and Canada to reload their accounts using PayPal, a new dashboard feature to track Starbucks Rewards and an Android widget that lets users access balance, rewards and payment functions more easily.
With the new version of the app, Android and iPhone users can now pay for their coffee with their phones at more than 14,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., Starbucks said.
