Square readers now available through Starbucks
Starbucks is selling dongles. According to TechCrunch, Square's credit card-reading dongles will now be stocked next to the cinnamon buns and bags of coffee in Starbucks' 7,000 retail locations.
While the placement of credit card readers in a coffee retailer may not seem like a good fit, that segment is one of the few where Square readers aren't already being sold. Currently, they're being carried by retailers such as Walmart, Target and Radio Shack.
And considering that Starbucks invested $25 million in Square last September, it does make sense that they would want to help the mobile point-of-sale company however they can in order to make the most of their investment.
The card reading dongles will retail for $10.
