Mobile payments firm Square has acquired BookFresh, a provider of online appointment scheduling services, according to a post on the Square blog.

BookFresh's software enables local sellers to accept online appointments from new and existing clients. It also provides automated text reminders, automated email reminders, calendar sync and schedule management

Square said it acquired BookFresh in order to offer its customers more than just payment acceptance. Square also enables its customers to run loyalty programs and promotions, access business analytics and use Square Register for managing their point of sale.

"BookFresh's software helps local sellers create a seamless, self-service appointment booking experience that connects them instantly with new and existing customers," Square said on its blog.

The BookFresh team will join Square, but their products will operate separately for the time being, according to a BookFresh blog. BookFresh data will not be accessible immediately in the Square dashboard.
