SEQR mobile wallet offers fundraising capability

Swedish mobile wallet developer Seamless announced that its SEQR QR code-based mobile payments app can now be used for charitable fundraising. SEQR users can donate money directly inside the app or by scanning a QR code unique to each participating organization. The QR code can be displayed in both digital or traditional marketing channels, the company said.

Sweden's Amnesty International, Plan and Child Cancer Foundation are among the twelve charitable organizations that are already accepting donations through SEQR.

To donate from within the SEQR app, users choose an organization displayed in the app, select the amount and approve the payment with their PIN.

"Our vision is to offer mobile payment solutions that change the payments industry," Anders Forssten, Seamless' global marketing manager for SEQR, said in a statement. "By donating through SEQR, it only takes a minute to make a difference."

Forssten said that, since each QR code is unique, Seamless can help participating charitable organizations measure the effectiveness of their digital and traditional marketing channels.

Since QR codes can be applied to almost anything, it opens up endless opportunities for fundraisers, Seamless said. SEQR users can donate on the go, when a need arises, using their smartphone. The unique QR code can be applied to flyers, posters, stickers, websites, social media, emails and newsletters.

By receiving donations by QR code, participating charities will significantly decrease their transaction costs since the technology is not connected to any card infrastructure, Seamless said.
