Savored becomes a morsel for Groupon

Groupon is outgrowing the "daily deal" moniker (and taxing tech writers' abilities to come up with a clever synonym for "devours"). The company announced it has devoured snapped up Savored, a mobile reservations provider that targets high-end restaurants in the U.S. Terms were not disclosed.

Savored is similar to a tool Groupon already offers for eateries and their patrons, though restaurants on Savored tend to be fine-dining and upscale establishments.

Through Savored, diners can make reservations at more than 1,000 restaurants nationwide using their mobile devices. Once they make their reservations through Savored they also get a discount of up to a 40 percent on their bills. That's good for the diner. As for restaurants, they can use the tool to fill tables that might go unused. That's good for the eatery.

Groupon will now meld that functionality, and Savored's restaurant partners, into its existing offers platform.

"Savored's platform nicely complements Groupon's efforts in yield management, an area we've pioneered with Groupon Now!," said Dan Roarty, VP of Groupon Now. "We look forward to working together to achieve a common goal — making dining out even more fun and affordable for consumers while helping restaurateurs manage inventory and grow their businesses."
