PNC Treasury launches intelligent routing to offer speed, cost options on payments

PNC Treasury Management said it has launched an intelligent payment routing service that allows business or individual customers to determine the specific payment type they prefer to use.

The payment can be routed based on a number of factors, including lowest cost, speed and other factors. Users can choose to send via real-time payments, same-day ACH or next-day ACH. By the first quarter 2020 an optional wire transfer will be available.

"Our clients have enough to focus their energies on without needing to also be experts when it comes to payments," Chris Ward, executive vice president and head of product and operations at PNC Treasury Management, said in a press release. "As a leader within the space, we have the expertise and solutions in place to determine the best method of executing a payment with robust reporting capabilities that add piece of mind."

PNC said it plans to use the intelligent routing service to reimburse its own employees for travel and business expenses. The company will use NACHA origination files and direct deposit information from payroll. If the employee is eligible for a real-time payment, the employee will be paid immediately. Otherwise, they will be paid to a personal account through an ACH system.
