Philly's Parkway intros mobile parking payment

Patrons of eleven Philadelphia parking lots are now enjoying the convenience of mobile payment of parking fees. The lots are operated by Parkway Corp., which has said it eventually plans to almost double its mobile payment capacity, adding up to 10 more lots to the service in the future.

"We've used this in other cities that we operate in, and it's been working fine," Parkway President Rob Zuritsky told News Works. "So we're integrating it into all of our Philadelphia operations."

Atlanta-based Parkmobile developed the Parkmobile app that Parkway is using, which allows a driver to pay for parking by phone, using credit card information stored by the app.

And not only does the app enable mobile payment for parking, it also helps drivers avoid parking tickets, the company said. The app sends a pop-up reminder when parking time runs down to 15 minutes, and lets the driver re-up parking time without having to return to manually feed the meter.

Parkway couldn't estimate how many drivers are using the service this close to initial launch. However the company told News Works that 35 percent of drivers who have access to the service generally do eventually use it.
