NetSecure Technologies touts Square-like service for Canadian market

Another mobile point-of-sale solution is hitting the Canadian market. NetSecure Technologies has launched Kudos, a small business service that lets small businesses accept credit card payments via swipe terminals on desktops, laptops and smartphones running iOS, Android and RIM operating systems.

"Terminals and merchant accounts are expensive," Daniel McCann, president and founder of NetSecure Technologies, said. NetSecure Technologies "has an opportunity to allow small businesses to accept credit cards using what they already have today — their phones and laptops," he said.

In its announcement, NetSecure Technologies said its service is meant to emulate U.S. start-up Square but for the Canadian market.

"Up until now, the Canadian market's mobile payment arena has been virtually non-existent," McCann said, adding that Kudos "is bringing Square-style payments to Canada for the very first time."

Kudos' credit card acceptance kit comes with a swipe terminal, software and a merchant account. Customers are charged a flat rate of 2.9 percent per transaction. There are no limitations on the number of transactions and the product uses full end-to-end encryption to secure consumer data.

The kit normally costs $49.99, but NetSecure Technologies is waiving the fee for a limited time to encourage businesses to sign up for the service.
