Nets acquires Finnish payments software firm Poplatek

Nets Group, a Denmark-based payments processing company, announced the acquisition of Poplatek Oy, a Finnish software developer and its spinoff company, which operates under the name Poplapay.

The deal is part of a wider strategy by Nets to expand its European presence. The companies, which have combined annual revenue of about 5 million euros, will operate as subsidiaries of Nets Group and continue to operate under their own brand names.

"Nets already had a strong and well established presence in the Finnish market, providing both issuer services to banks and payments solutions at POS and online merchants," Robert Hoffman, CEO of merchant services at Nets, told Mobile Payments Today via email. "Today's acquisition extends these capabilities and enhances Nets offerings in payment acceptance solutions towards merchants, both in Finland and across Europe."

A year ago, Nets agreed to buy Poland's Dotpay/eCard and merged with Condardis Payment Group, a leading payments provider in the DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) region.
