Mobile check-in kiosks to drive store sales
Software designer Solekai Systems has partnered with a mobile solutions start-up called Raging Mobile to develop a prototype for a mobile phone check-in kiosk that allows customers shopping inside a retail location to download coupons to their phones and tablets. The platform should help drive in-store item sales while luring foot traffic to brick-and-mortar stores, according to twice.com.
The check-in kiosks can either sit on countertops or come as a freestanding pedestal to encourage consumers to check-in when they first enter the stores. Two New York 7-Eleven locations are now testing the solution that operates on Near Field Communication technology, using a reader built into the base of the kiosk to communicate with NFC sticker-equipped mobile phones.
The companies hope to soon extend the kiosks to a wider range of retail and retail channel partners.
