LevelUp partners with another POS maker

Boston-based startup LevelUp keeps plugging along, finding new point-of-sale partners to integrate its QR code-based mobile payment method. This time it's ShopKeep POS, a provider of POS systems built on iPad devices.

LevelUp has announced that ShopKeep POS will now integrate its QR code payment method into the ShopKeep POS system, making it possible for merchants to accept LevelUp for payments.

"The mobile payment industry is poised for tremendous growth," said ShopKeep POS founder and CEO Jason Richelson in a statement. "We are dedicated to making business processes simple for our merchants and always aim to offer them the latest tools in the market. LevelUp shares our sensibility and we are thrilled to work with them."

The ShopKeep POS announcement is part of LevelUp's larger strategy to partner with POS manufacturers to make it easier for restaurants and retailers to accept its payment method.

The company provides its own custom Plexiglas POS terminals that use a mobile device to read a customer's QR code. But a solution that requires additional equipment might prove inconvenient for merchants with limited counter space. By partnering with POS makers, LevelUp is providing access without requiring merchants to give up valuable real estate on their counters.

"By integrating with ShopKeep, we're making the process of accepting mobile payments easier than ever before," said LevelUp CEO and "Chief Ninja" Seth Priebatsch in a statement. "A big part of our continued quest to bring mobile payments to everyone is making LevelUp work seamlessly with the existing systems our merchants use every day."

Last October, LevelUp announced similar arrangements with major restaurant POS manufacturers MICROS, Dinerware and POSitouch.

Convenience isn't LevelUp's only sales pitch. The company offers fee-free transactions to merchants who accept its payment method. Instead, merchants pay a percentage on incremental sales from campaigns run through LevelUp.
