Japanese retailer taps MishiPay mobile self-checkout technology
Japanese retailer MUJI is deploying MishiPay's mobile self-checkout technology across all the company's U.K. locations.
The Scan, Pay, Go technology lets consumers scan items in the store via a smartphone and pay using a variety of digital payment options without having to wait on any checkout line or have interaction with store team members or even a checkout terminal.
It's the retailer's latest move to simplify a more convenient experience for customers, according to a press release.
Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, retailers are striving to meet social distancing mandates and prove a contactless shopping experience.
"The in-store experience for customers has always been an important part of the MUJI brand, and MishiPay's mobile self-checkout solution has allowed us to create a new level of convenience. Not only are customers enjoying being able to check out without queuing or touching hardware, but our staff are also more free to help, advise and add real value to the shopping experience rather than processing payments," David Brice, managing director at MUJI UK, said in the release.
MUJI is the latest retailer to partner with London-based MishiPay, following recent launches including BWG stores in Ireland and Decathlon in Germany.
"After our recent successful launches with retailers across Europe it is exciting to see MishiPay now being used in MUJI's stores in prime retail locations around the U.K. MUJI is dedicated to creating simple, enjoyable customer experiences, so we have been delighted to work with them to roll out a solution that improves both convenience and safety for their shoppers," Mustafa Khanwala, MishiPay CEO and founder, said in the release.
