IZettle adds Android support
Swedish mobile point-of-sale company iZettle (which can't seem to escape the moniker "the Swedish Square") announced it has finished its Anroid beta. The company will be releasing a solution in Sweden that will let small businesses use Android smartphones to process credit card transactions. The company said it plans to expand Android support across its entire European footprint soon.
Unlike other mobile POS solutions, including Square, IZettle offers its customers in Europe a solution that can handle transactions using either magnetic stripe or EMV chip credit cards. It currently offers services in the Nordic countries as well as in a limited trial in the U.K.
The company ran into some issues with Visa Europe last month and still cannot process Visa transactions in several countries where it operates. However, a spokesowoman for the company said the policy does not include Sweden, so customers there can process a full range of credit card transactions. She said iZettle is still working on the issue with Visa Europe but said there is no new information on a resolution to the issue.
