Ingenico acquires online payment provider Ogone

Point-of-sale and payment provider Ingenico has acquired Ogone, a European online payment services provider. The total value of the deal is €360 million ($483 million).

Ingenico called the acquisition "a key milestone" in its strategy of becoming a "one-stop-shop" provider of multi-channel payment solutions, whether that's at the POS, online or through mobile devices.

Ogone, based in Brussels, offers online merchants a simple, secure payment method. It boasts 42,000 merchant clients in Europe and €42 million ($56 million) in revenue.

Ingenico said the purchase should close during the current quarter, depending upon regulatory approval.

"Combining Ogone's leading position in the online space with our unique position in the point-of-sale and mobile space will enable us to address multi-channel global payment solutions for both merchants and acquirers, first in Europe and then in high potential geographies," said Philippe Lazare, CEO of Ingenico, in a statement.
