According to de Telegraaf, a new NFC pilot program involving wireless carrier KPN, payment giant MasterCard and three Dutch banks — ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank — will launch this summer offering a select group of citizens of Leiden, Netherlands, a mobile wallet.

NFC World filled in some details on the test. It will be run by Mobile Payment Netherlands, a venture backed by ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank. The test group will include 1,000 account holders from the banks and will let them make payments using NFC-enabled phones in locations around the city.

The three bank partners and their Mobile Payment Netherlands initiative are what remain of the "Sixpack" of carriers and banks that formed in 2011 to create a mobile payment network in the Netherlands. That group dissolved last year.

NFC World reported each bank will assess the pilot programs to assess their individual mobile payment strategies.
