Digital gifting startup Giftango acquired by prepaid provider Incomm
Prepaid provider InComm has acquired digital gift card company Giftango, the companies announced today. Giftango gives merchants a turnkey soluton to offer gift cards directly from their online channels. The virtual gift cards can then be delivered via email, Facebook or to mobile devices.
Incomm said the purchase of Giftango will expand its reach into e-commerce gift card sales and distribution through high volume channels.
"This acquisition opens doors to new and meaningful distribution channels for InComm merchants and product partners. Giftango is the digital gifting technology behind very large loyalty, incentive and mobile platforms in the U.S. market and has made inroads internationally as well," said Brooks Smith, InComm president and CEO, in an announcement. "This also adds proven B2B, e-commerce and promotional toolsets to the portfolio of InComm products."
According to the announcement of the deal, more than 150 brands deliver digital gift cards through Giftango's network of more than 80 partners.
"The combination of our two companies brings together the cutting-edge digital ingenuity of a startup with an established leader in the prepaid space, creating a complete prepaid solution for all market participants that is unmatched," said David Nelsen, Giftango CEO, in the announcement. He added that the combination of the companies allows them to extend the digital prepaid functionality necessary for mobile wallets, incentive and loyalty distribution, financial institutions and the new mobile payments ecosystem.
Giftango will become a wholly owned subsidiary of InComm and will remain in Portland, Ore. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
