Dairy Queen Canada adds mobile component to Miracle Treat Day

Dairy Queen Canada has created 7.9 million Blizzard cups with a special QR barcode that allows them the opportunity to donate instantly to the Children's Miracle Network for the 2011 Miracle Treat Day campaign.

The special Blizzard cups were enabled by Mobio Technologies Inc. (formerly Mobio Identity Systems Inc.), an international mobile payments and marketing company, and are available beginning today.

Through Mobio's code, customers can access stories of miracle children who have been helped by generous donations, as well as join the DQ Blizzard Fan Club, "like" DQ on Facebook or follow DQ on Twitter.

"Mobio will add even more value to the 27-year partnership Dairy Queen has fostered with the Children's Miracle Network," said Jessica Warren, Canada's national marketing manager, DQ. "Smartphones and QR codes will allow us to reach out and build relationships with a whole new generation of customers."

Mobio turns a Smartphone camera into a specialized QR barcode reader that unlocks the capability for a user to donate through any media (print, web and TV). The Mobio app is available for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. First-time users download the free Mobio app and register for the secure service. Once registered, a user can then scan a Mobio QR barcode to make a charitable donation using VISA, MasterCard or American Express.

"Mobio is excited to turn a simple Blizzard purchase into a truly interactive experience for consumers," said Mark Binns, chief marketing officer, Mobio Technologies Inc.
