Canada and Taiwan welcome Android Pay

Android Pay is now live in Canada and Taiwan as the mobile payment service continues to expand worldwide.

"Over the next several days, Android Pay is rolling out with support from eligible Visa and MasterCard credit cards from BMO Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Banque Nationale, Scotiabank, Desjardins, President's Choice Financial, ATB Financial, and Canadian Tire Financial Services in Canada, and prepaid Scotiabank and Desjardins cards," Pali Bhat, vice president of product management for payments at Google, wrote in a blog post.

Bhat said that support for Interac-branded debit cards will begin Monday while support for American Express and Tangerine will arrive later this summer.

Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald's, Indigo, Pizza Pizza and Sears Canada are among the major merchants that will accept Android Pay at the physical point of sale in Canada.

As for the Taiwan launch, users can add an eligible Visa or MasterCard credit card from CTBC and First Bank. Phat wrote that Google is working to bring more FIs into the fold.
