Bell ID providing software for RIM mobile payment solutions

Bell ID, a provider of smart chip management solutions, has announced that its token manager software is behind Research In Motion's secure element manager solution for NFC mobile payments.

The company's software platform allows various stakeholders to coordinate the information and security required to make mobile payment services possible on mobile devices. For instance, it allows the trusted service manager, which connects a customer's mobile account with a payment account, to provide service providers such as banks and retailers the ability to provision, store and update consumers' credentials and applications on NFC-capable devices.

"With this implementation, Bell ID has proven its capability to provide true carrier grade software, which can support high volumes and high throughput for global multi-application real time token management solutions," said Bell ID Executive Chairman Pat Curran. "It confirms Bell ID’s position in the NFC market as the leading vendor-independent software provider."

On behalf of RIM, Andrew Bocking, senior vice president for software product management, said the company selected Bell ID for its broad experience within multiple vertical markets, as well as its proven technical ability to manage infrastructure complexity.

"With Bell ID’s Mobile Token Manager Software, we have been able to implement the necessary framework to oversee the secure delivery and management of mobile NFC services to any NFC capable device, including BlackBerry smartphones," Bocking said. "As the software is vendor neutral, we have the flexibility to work with any third-party provider to manage a global NFC ecosystem."
