Bango expands carrier billing presence in Latin America

The company already powers carrier billing in a number of Latin American markets for users of Windows Phone Store, BlackBerry World and Firefox Marketplace.

Bango announced this week that it has launched app store carrier billing in four Latin American markets, including two launches for Google Play, according to a press release. The London-based company expects to enter additional markets in the region later this years.

Bango launched carrier billing for Telefónica Colombia subscribers using Windows Phone Store and Mozilla’s Firefox Marketplace. It also enabled carrier billing for Nextel Mexico subscribers using Google Play and for Iusacell Mexico subscribers using Google Play.

Bango said it already powers carrier billing in a number of Latin American markets, for users of Windows Phone Store, BlackBerry World and Firefox Marketplace, according to the announcement. When it has introduced carrier billing to fast-growing emerging markets such as those of Latin America it has led to increases in digital content sales of up to 400 percent, the company claims

"Now is an ideal time to be expanding in Latin America — with 62 percent smartphone penetration among 2014 handset sales and more mobile subscriptions than people across the region," Bango CEO Ray Anderson said in a statement. "As global app stores invest in the region, they require a global payment platform that is reliable and proven at scale. [This] announcement confirms the confidence that global stores and major mobile network operators are placing in the Bango Payment Platform to roll out carrier billing across high growth markets."
