Baidu inks deal with PayPal to expand mobile wallet acceptance outside China

Chinese internet company Baidu has announced a partnership with PayPal that will enable the Baidu mobile wallet to be accepted by some 17 million PayPal merchants worldwide, according to multiple media reports and a press release from Baidu.

"Partnering with PayPal on technology and product innovation will provide Baidu users with the ultimate cross-border consumer experience," Guang Zhu, Baidu senior vice president, said in the release.

Baidu is the latest Chinese company in the payments realm to seek expansion overseas through deals with established companies outside of China.

Both Alipay and WeChat have each entered into multiple agreements to enable merchant acceptance of their respective mobile-payment platforms.
