An end to debit: Mobile phones make headway as new payment option

Belfast Telegraph: Consumers may soon use their mobile phones rather than debit cards for purchases that are less than £10. Barclays, with its Barclaycard, and Orange are currently testing the technology, and hope the first customers will be able to use it next year, with all Barclaycard customers having access to the payment method in three years. Barclays and Orange are looking to expand the partnership to offer other contactless services in areas such as tickets for public transport, enabling people to use their mobile phones in a way similar to an Oyster card.
