AMSI announces new mobile POS, and adds a printer

Is it possible for the mobile POS market to bear one more competitor? Advanced Merchant Solutions Inc. (AMSI) thinks there is. But to show how competitive the market has become, AMSI's mobile POS adds a twist — it actually includes a small printer for receipts.

AMSI announced its Pocket Verifier Professional mobile POS solution for iOS devices is now available with the iMerchant, a small unit that includes a thermal print mechanism along with its magnetic stripe reader for swiping credit cards.

"Our Web App has been out for a while and we've working with our existing iPhone mobile merchants to see what they wanted," said AMSI CTO Dr. Blaine Leckett in the announcement. "Quick order taking, swiped rates, and printed receipts were at the top of the list."

Leckett said that a printed receipt is still the best way to avoid card-holder pushback and to reduce chargeback fees that are usually paid by the merchant.

In reference to other competitive mobile POS systems on the market such as Square, AMSI's CEO Dennis Ideue said in the statement that AMSI merchants are qualified and approved upfront, meaning they don't potentially have a "30-day-hold" placed on their payments when they process transactions.

Square holds some funds for 30 days if a merchant exceeds $1,000 in card-not-present transactions in any seven day period.
