Shopify, dLocal offer local payment acceptance for SMB merchants

Shopify, an international e-commerce platform, is partnering with fintech firm dLocal to allow small and medium-sized merchants to offer local payments in more than 19 different currencies.

The partnership will allow international e-commerce merchants to accept local payments in various emerging markets without the need to set up their systems through various payment gateways and manage other business processes, according to a press release.

"Having the ability to accept local payments will open e-commerce SMB merchants up to new business and help them deliver a positive customer experience online without unnecessary payment processing lag," Rodrigo Sanchez Prandi, vice president, product at dLocal, said in the release. "We are pleased to be able to offer localized payments to better meet the needs of the people who live in emerging markets and the businesses looking to grow and expand in these areas."

The partnership will allow merchants to accept local currency payments in 19 markets across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
