Japan's Paidy raises $143M in Series C equity and debt led by PayPal Ventures

Paidy Inc., a Japanese fintech that offers instant credit to customers, said it received $143 million in Series C funding and debt financing, with the equity led by PayPal Ventures and Soros Capital Management. 

The Series C funding of $83 million included PayPal, Soros, JS Capital Management (the family office of Jonathan Soros), Tybourne Capital Management and one additional firm that was not named. 

The $60 million in debt financing included $52 million from Goldman Sachs Japan and later $8 million from Mizuho Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. and Sumitomo MItsui Trust. 

"As the Paidy network continues to grow, we are very pleased to continue innovating and to offer best in class market solutions to merchants and new frictionless payment experiences to consumers," founder Russell Cummer said in a release.
