Idemia and JCB partner to launch Google Pay in Japan

Idemia, an augmented identity company, has partnered with JCB, an international payments provider, to launch Google Pay in Japan. The partnership will allow JCB credit, debit and prepaid cardholders to make contactless mobile payments with their Google Pay mobile wallet, according to a press release.

JCB cardholders can use Google Pay at Japanese merchants that accept transactions through QuicPay, JCB's contactless payment solution. JCB uses an agnostic payment card tokenization platform, which links with Idemia's digital payment solution. With this integration, JCB can integrate with Google Pay and offer real-time provisioning and tokenization.

Japanese users can add their JCB card directly to the Google Pay app on Osaifu Keitai-compatible phones running Android 5.0 or higher.

"We believe the service will enhance the convenience and experience for JCB card members with the simple and intuitive user interfac," Masaki Yokawa, JCB executive vice president for brand business, said in the releasee. "JTP plays an integral part for making this happen, and we are proud to have worked with Idemia, who has a proven track record in this area, in order to add the Google Pay capability to the platform."
