Mastercard launches shop locator tool in U.S., Canada

Mastercard announced the regional launch of ShopOpenings.com, a tool that can tell cardholders which shops and businesses are back open as communities re-emerge from the COVID-19-related lockdown in most parts of the U.S and Canada.

The ShopOpenings.com site, built in partnership with data analytics firm SixthSense, lists a range of businesses, including restaurants, dry cleaners, pharmacies and boutiques. The site also mentions which businesses accept contactless payments.

"Businesses large and small are the engine of growth for economies around the world and right now they need our collective support to navigate these uncharted times," Jess Turner, executive vice president, products and innovation in North America, at Mastercard, said in a press release. "The resiliency and drive of small business owners is unprecedented, and ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary is the single most important thing we all can do for economic and social vitality."

Mastercard also announced the Digital Acceleration for Small Business, an initiative to deliver insights to small business owners who want to expand their digital presence. That program will initially launch in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mastercard has rolled out a program called Digital Doors in the U.S. with partners like BigCommerce, Hello Alice and Shopify, with cybersecurity tools, Click to Pay and a customized digital skills curriculum.

In Latin America, Mastercard is working with partners like Linio, INCAE, Leafgrow and Sheworks.
